Delta Air Lines Pilot Arrested for Drinking Before Flight

A pilot from Delta Air Lines was arrested in Scotland for drinking too much alcohol shortly before his scheduled flight to New York.

The 61-year-old pilot was taken into custody at Edinburgh Airport just 30 minutes before the Boeing 767 was supposed to depart for John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Passengers had already boarded the flight when the pilot was arrested. The arrest was made based on the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003, which sets a strict legal limit of 0.02 blood alcohol level for pilots, compared to 0.08 for driving.

The exact level of intoxication or how the pilot was caught has not been disclosed. The pilot has been charged and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Delta Air Lines confirmed the incident and stated that they are cooperating with the authorities.

As a result of the pilot’s arrest, the flight to New York was canceled, and passengers were provided with alternative accommodations.

Delta Air Lines expressed apologies for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation.

This is not the first instance of a pilot being arrested for being intoxicated. In a similar incident in 2016, a United Airlines pilot was arrested at Glasgow Airport for attempting to board a flight to Newark, New Jersey, and was later sentenced to 10 months in prison.
